Michael Chiklis to Star in Pilot About Superhero Family

Michael ChiklisThe season finale of 'Heroes' is on NBC tonight (yup, in February), and no knows yet if the show is coming back for another season or not (though Greg Grunberg is hopeful). If the show is canceled, there are a couple of shows that are rushing to fill that hole in the superhero genre. One is an NBC show titled 'Cape,' and another is 'No Ordinary Family.' a pilot that ABC has picked up.

This one is a drama from Greg Berlanti ('Brothers & Sisters,' 'Eli Stone,' 'Dawson's Creek,' 'Everwood,' and 'Dirty Sexy Money') and focuses on a family (headed by dad Chiklis) who finds that they have super powers. And by "super powers" I'm sure they mean things like strength, speed, and invisibility and not other powers a family could have, like being a great cook, being able to fix leaky faucets, and organizing closets like no ordinary human.

3D Game Shows? 'Wheel of Fortune' Could Be First

Wheel of FortuneI can think of about 75 changes to television I'd like to see before this, but apparently they're thinking of bringing 3D technology to game shows. Last Friday, the producers of 'Wheel of Fortune' showed a 3D clip of the show at Sony's 3D Technology Center. Executive producer Harry Friedman says he's "interested in keeping [the show] fresh...without changing the game." One of the ways to do that is to change the way the show is filmed, the set, and the technology used. It's a tricky thing though. Even if you don't change the game at all, 'Wheel of Fortune' has been around for a very long time and dedicated fans like things the way they are.

Is 3D television something you'd actually watch on a regular basis, or is it something you'd want to use rarely, maybe for movies or playing video games? While there are now 3D television sets being sold, I'm still not sold on the technology. I certainly don't want to wear any special glasses or change the way I watch TV in any way just to see someone buy a vowel.

The Super Bowl Commercials: The Worst

Super BowlIt has become a cliche to say "I watch the Super Bowl just for the ads," but I really do. I have no interest in football at all (even less this year because the Patriots aren't in it - the only reason I would have to even be a little interested in the game is if the team from my area was in it), so I really do look forward to seeing and reviewing the ads. Too bad the Super Bowl ads aren't what they used to be (except for that Letterman/Leno/Oprah ad ... wow).

This year I'm picking the seven worst ads, while Kona is handling the seven best. Two rules for my worst: no movie ads (they're in a category all by themselves and shouldn't be judged with the other ads), and I tried not to pick any commercials that aired before today.

NBC Takes Down All of Conan's 'Tonight Show' Content

ConanIt looks like NBC is doing a little house cleaning at their web site. Not only is all of Conan O'Brien's 'Tonight Show' content gone, but the 'Tonight Show' section is gone completely.

If you take a look at NBC.com and go to the drop down menu where all of the shows are listed, there isn't even a 'Tonight Show' listed anymore. There is a listing for 'The Jay Leno Show' if you want to check that out, though I'm not sure why you'd want to.

Maybe they're retooling the 'Tonight Show' site for when Jay makes his return in a few weeks, but it would be a shame if, when the site comes back up, all of Conan's stuff is still gone. I mean, isn't he a part of the show's history, even if that part only last for seven months? It's fine to replace Conan's face on an NBC mural, it's another thing to wipe him from the network's history altogether.

What You Missed Last Night: Jimmy Fallon's TV Mash-Ups

One of the things I love about "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' is Fallon's enthusiasm. When he laughs hard at something, it's real, sincere goofiness, not a fake showbiz laugh. Like last night when he introduced TV Mash-Ups, NBC's big plan to get back on top.

Of course, there's no way in hell I'd watch shows called 'Hard Nips' and 'Front Butt.'

Subtle Subtitles: 'Jimmy Kimmel Live'

The Mentalist
If you haven't seen our game before, we give you a picture from a recent episode of a TV series and you provide the caption!

Last week's winner is Katie with this: "I wouldn't drink that. The guy from that 'Psych' show said he added his own 'special' ingredient."

This week's picture is from 'Jimmy Kimmel Live,' with guests Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, producers of 'Lost.'

Kirstie Alley Returns to Television to Lose Weight

Kirstie AlleyLosing weight has become a full-time job for Kirstie Alley. She was a spokesperson for Jenny Craig for a while and lost a ton of weight, so much that she even showed up on 'Oprah' in a bikini to show how much weight she had lost. She even had an overweight-themed show for a while, the one with the subtle title 'Fat Actress.' Of course, Alley gained the weight back (and more, if some pictures were to be believed), so it seems like this is going to be a life-long thing for her.

And us, because Alley has yet another reality show coming up that's going to focus on her weight and health. A&E's 'Kirstie Alley's Big Life' will follow the actress as she tries to lose weight. Of course, ther's more to it than that. The show will also chronicle her duties as a single mom to two teenagers (Alley is divorced from actor Parker Stevenson).

The show starts on March 21 at 10PM. So who's going to watch?

Newsweek Staff Members Who've Never Seen 'Lost' Watch and Comment

The other night while watching the season premiere of 'Lost,' I was thinking about people who have never seen the show. What if they watched this episode? Would they have any idea of what's going on? Would they like it? Would their heads explode?

This video below answers the question a bit. Several Newsweek staff members got together to watch scenes from important moments on the show and tried to figure out what it all means. Some of the comments range from goofy ("Why would that guy make the engine blow up?") to the typical line you hear from a non-fan ("It's heaven!").
